SHADOWS/ VALUES
Below is the flyer for the Yuma 2010 class:

'WHAT TO BRING' list ...Shadows/ Values Workshop
notebook/ sketchbook /assorted drawing pencils /2x3 viewfinder
[we will be using these most of the time the first day]
*your paints...oils or acrylics
**NOTICE...be sure you have at least one version of each hue listed below in your collection..indispensable for mixing great colors:
• lemon yellow [or hansa yellow]....a light cool transparent yellow
• cadmium yellow light or medium [or permanent yellow]...a warm yellow
• yellow ochre....a cool opaque earth yellow...[used to gray violet shadows]
• cadmium red light [or permanent red light or vermillion]...a very warm color
• alizarin crimson [or permanent madder or alizarin type substitute]...a cool transparent red
• burnt sienna [or transparent red oxide].... wonderful warm earth
• venetian red [or mars red, indian red , mars violet, or terra rosa]....a cool earth color
• manganese blue hue [or cerulean blue]....a warm semi-opaque turquoise
• prussian blue [or thalo blue]...useful for making great blacks when mixed with cool earths
• ultramarine blue....indispensable cool transparent blue
Optional [for convenience] :
cadmium orange [or permanent orange]... warm
viridian [or thalo green]....a cool transparent blue-green [very useful for chromatic blacks]
any red violet ...a warm purple
any blue violet.... cool purple
*don’t forget a large tube of white!
**notice...generally there is a warm/ cool version of a color
**black, paynes gray, or any colors made with black will not be used...they have their place [advanced work]..but we will not use them ..not even for shadows!
*one 16 x 20 canvas or canvas board
*gamsol [or quality odorless mineral spirits]
*liquin or whatever medium you like for your paints
*mixing surface/palette...not too small
*brushes...flats, brights, or filberts...two each...sizes 2,4,6,8
*paper towels....[the heavy blue paper shop towels work great]
*something to protect the table under your work area...[neutral colored is best]
*wear your painting clothes [comfortable...paint stains, etc]
* a foam pad or old pillow [especially for the first day]...the chairs are very hard!
**yummy lunch / something to drink
*and most importantly... bring an attitude open to learning and solving problems...a necessary skill for all good artists...and of course...your love of color. Let's have some fun!
